As a subrogation-focused law firm comprised of a team of attorneys, adjusters and specialists in subrogation, Rathbone Group’s eyes are always on the horizon. From innovation in business to excellence in the practice of law, RG has been recognized by several entities as a top subrogation company several years running. As well, many of our subrogation lawyers have each garnered their own recognition awards over the last 5 years.

We are proud of the services we offer insurers and companies looking to achieve maximum recovery in subrogation cases. Our workplace culture is one of transparency, communication and veracity in our work for every client in every subrogation suit. Skilled in litigation, arbitration, and mediation, Rathbone Group utilizes forensic investigation and strategic approaches to subrogating insurance claims on behalf of insurers and self-insured companies alike. Our creative approach to managing subrogation cases minimizes costs and maximizes recovery, optimizing your chances to increase your bottom line.

We’re proud for our subrogation firm to have been recognized by several publications throughout the last five years:

Rathbone Group was regionally recognized as a Best Law Firm by US News & World Report for 2022. Best Places to Work in Insurance by Business Insurance Magazine (2020)

A Top 100 list decided annually by Business Insurance and Best Companies Group, the Best Places to Work recognition acknowledges insurers, brokers, subrogation companies, and other providers that have the highest levels of employee satisfaction, and who are committed to acquiring, retaining and fostering the top talent in the companies’ respective fields. Rathbone Group was recognized in the Small Employer category, nationally ranked at #53 for 2020.

Business Insurance Innovation Awards (2021, for E-Notary Service)

One core value of Rathbone Group is finding creative solutions to functional problems in the practice of law. COVID made it significantly more difficult to manage subrogation cases for our clients as documents often need notarized, which is traditionally something you can only do in person. Even once the courts reopened, many jurisdictions still placed limits on in-person procedures, leading to virtual court proceedings.

But the challenge of in-person notarization still remained, and we knew we needed to find a solution to continue to best serve clients in their subrogation matters. Through a lot of research and a little creativity, RG developed our online e-notary service, which allows our clients to have up to 30 documents remotely notarized in one session, taking minutes instead of hours.

In 2021, members of the Rathbone Group subrogation team completed 126 online notarization sessions with a total of 419 documents notarized remotely. This timely and effective pivot to remote work in subrogation law garnered RG a Business Insurance Innovation Award for our e-notary service.

Northeast Ohio Commuter Choice Awards (2021, Silver Category)

The NEO Commuter Choice Awards are a yearly friendly competition among regional companies that takes place over one month each summer. A live leaderboard tracks how much each company saves in commuting costs and CO2 emissions by encouraging commuting choices other than driving alone.

A total of 7 companies of the 23 who participated were recognized for their innovation in remote work, offering incentives to employees to ride bikes, taking public transit, carpool, offering health insurance discounts for those who bike or walk to work, and more. Rathbone Group is proud to have ranked in the Silver Category for 2021.

Our Stand-Out Team of Subrogation Lawyers

Our company would not be what it is today without our team of tirelessly driven subrogation-focused attorneys. Just as much as Rathbone Group has come to stand out regionally and nationally in a short time since our founding in 2014, so, too, has each member of our subrogation group:

Kim Rathbone, Managing Partner

Rising to the Top of the Subrogation Field: RG’s Trailblazers

Acquiring, retaining and fostering the growth of young talent in the field of insurance law is one feature of Rathbone Group that has made our team of subrogation professionals so adept at navigating even the trickiest of subrogation cases for our clients. The importance of utilizing the new points of view and distinct skills of younger attorneys is something the field of law at-large also understands as integral to progress.

Super Lawyer’s Rising Stars recognizes attorneys who have been practicing law for less than 10 years. The selection process includes analyzing the course of their young careers and recognizing those who go above and beyond to become leaders in their fields. Two of Rathbone Group’s subrogation attorneys, both a partner and a senior associate, have earned this distinction more than once:

Steven Alsip, Partner

  • Super Lawyer Rising Stars (2019 & 2020)

Jessica Lobes, Senior Associate

  • Super Lawyer Rising Stars (2018 – 2022)
